I don't know about the whole star thing but on Tire Rack, neither the DWS06 nor the Michelin PS A/S seem to have the star mark (unless I missed it). I'm planning to replace my tires with DWS06 when the time comes and couldn't care less about the star mark. The BMW star marked tires on Tire Rack are not what I want and are much more expensive than the two options above seeing as they're both run flats (which I also don't want). I'll deal with any repercussions of that if/when it happens.
BTW, here too I've seen the option of configuring the car from factory with non-RFT tires so I'm a bit suspicious about what that dealership service advisor said.
