I wrestled with this decision quite a bit before leasing a 528i a month ago. A fairly basic Model S would have cost 73% more than my BMW to lease, factoring in all payments, fees, taxes, and incentives. (That works out to $17,000!) Tesla projects $6,000 gas savings in three years. At 10k miles per year, 25 MPG average, and $4.00/gal, I will only spend $4,800 in gas in that time.
I have high hopes for the 530e, or i5, or whatever Audi Etron models are on the horizon. For now, I am just not green enough to choose a Model S.
