We can expect the hybrid powerplant to be similar to the 3 Series hybrid plug-in discussed by BMW last week. That means a battery between the trunk and passenger cabin which propels an electric motor contained within the CVT transmission casing. It will cover up to 20 miles on solely electric power.
This would be the first use of a Rear Wheel Drive Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) in a BMW???

Is this a mistake or has ZF created a new hybrid RWD transmission using CVT technology?

Is the G30 platform scheduled to use the Mini FWD power-train?

ZF does have an 8-speed hybrid trans based on the same as currently used in the BMW lineup.

Jason, as a automotive transmission instructor I'm interested in possibility of a new RWD CVT design that is described in the post. Do you have any additional power-train info for the G30?
