Blacked out instrument cluster
Came back from a two week vacation, everything else seems fine but the instrument cluster is blacked out. Is there a way to reset? I held down the radio power button for 20 seconds and no fix. I have BimmerCode, I’m not sure if I can use that to run a diagnostic. Any ideas here for a quick fix?

Use BimmerCode to do a restore to the last backup and it should fix it. It’s happened to me.

Flickered and came back on. Next day it’s off. Then later I’m driving it’s fine and it goes off. So I reset it back to 1st BimmerCode coding, I don’t believe there is a way to completely wipe it to factory fresh is there? We will see tomorrow. If that fails, I’ll check the fuses. |

2019 540xi I had a problem with the display looking whacky but it was not totally black. Took it to the dealer and SA said they might be able to fix with reprogramming but if not may need replacement (under warranty at the time). When they hooked the car up to the BMW computer, BMW said replace the display unit. Problem solved; no problems after that. Out of warranty I suspect it would have been around $2,000. Hope it is something simple but you may be looking at a display replacement. --Bob
