Check out the list of class action law suits against Porsche for mechanical issues. I know the 2000 911 was one of them where engines were failing

the Taycan in the UK depreciates 65% the moment you sign the dotted line. other than that it's just like a Porsche inside. (mate has one)

if my 550 dies I'm getting a G8x Comp. (want a 911 Turbo S but can't afford one lol)
I know Porsches, especially taycans and parameras, have a bad rep for depreciation, but I still see 4 year old top spec examples of both that are going for more than *new* m5’s. My m550 and previous e63 650 depreciated way quicker than literally anything else I’ve ever seen, they’re among the fastest depreciating cars in the past 20 years. High depreciation to me just means it’s good to be the second owner.

The Germans know how to do creature comforts well. Even at risk of being frivolous. So many quality of life features taken for granted today debuted in the late 90’s and early 2000’s in BMWs and Mercedes’.

I haven’t kept tabs on how many class actions bmw has faced, but every one I’ve owned, m550 included, has had very widespread, very well known serious issues. Many persisting across years of production before bmw addressed them. (Especially with the n62/n63) Just waiting for a coolant leak on my current car any day now, still on the rubber hoses at 57k miles.

EV will hopefully have much less maintenance and admittedly that's what's adding to my excitement, particularly because the Macan EV seems to be superior to the ICE if the reviewers are to be believed. Win-win. Otherwise I'd probably not consider an EV.

I was just kidding. My car will go 100 mph for hours without breaking a sweat and massage by back amid the ambient lighting of my choosing, all while keeping itself in the lane.

But the A/C will run inconsistently at the same time.

Interesting, I wonder how BMW responds to widespread issues vs Porsche. I know Porsche has alienated a lot of customers with their lack of response to serious problems.

I've always preferred the pre-LCI headlights...they just seem more classic BMW. Except the more I see LCI models like yours, the more I really like the updated M Sport front end...it's just clean and modern. I already prefer the LCI tail lights. Great looking car.

I like both but I still prefer the pre-LCI styling. I’m in the minority, I guess, that really doesn’t care about the tail lights. They’re more aggressive in the LCI for sure. But I’m not motivated to swap them at all, really.

Yeh the pre LCI icon adaptive lights do look good
If you are driving at night and have a 5 behind you with those lights, you know for sure it’s a bmw
I like the new lights but they are generic. Pretty much the same as seen on some jaigaurs and Skodas to name a couple

Jags aren’t as common here as they probably are in the UK and most Americans haven’t even heard of Skoda much less seen one. But I get your point. The LCI front appears smaller to me than the pre-LCI, similar to how the F90 M5 somehow appears to be smaller than the G30. The chrome grill emphasizes this and is the reason I switched to the black grill a few years ago.

Never seen a Jag that has styling akin to the LCI.

The LCI definitely resembles a Skoda, however. And ofc, no one needs to have seen a Skoda to understand what that means, as it simply means that the design is akin to something in a lower class. Skoda design is typically rather tawdry and cheap looking (a universally understood concept), and designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Still very surprised BMW went this route with a car like the 5, but given many of the decisions coming out of Munich for the past few years, we shouldn't be.

I don’t mind the lci headlights now that I’ve seen enough lci cars to get used to them, they are similar to VW, Skoda lights but it is what it is & have never bought/not bought any of my bm's based on the headlights.
In maybe 7/8 years time (all being well) when I look to replace the G31 I suspect it’ll be with an lci F90, which should be available then for around £20/25,000, if F10 prices are anything to go by & the G31 should still worth around £15,000 or so.

Looking on AT at 540i G31’s I reckon if I was to sell mine now I’d get back almost what I’d paid for it a year & nine months ago….but what would I replace it with? I can’t think of anything, other than maybe something analogue from the ‘good ol days’
