I'm curious how Vanos solenoids have an affect on low speed shifting. With my butt dyno, it doesn't feel like a timing or power delivery issue. It definitely feels like odd shift software parameters.

I recently replaced the left engine mount on my 530D due to a slight vibration at idle in both park and drive and this also solved the occasional lumpy shift when coming to a stop. Might be something to look at. Also of note was the original engine mount actually didnt look that bad - I was worried I had misdiagnosed the issue (previous BMW's had same symptoms and the engine mount was visibly no good - this one looked ok still. But replacement solved the problem.

That used to happen in my F10, 20-30 mph just rolling. It would skip a beat as if it were in neutral without hi revs. I noticed it more on MILD incline. Took Head Mechanic from dealership out. I replicated....they could not fix...no error codes. I always love that one.
I just drove a '24 X5M60 for the weekend, a brutal shift from 20-30. Forced hi RPMs before it would shift. Very stressful feeling. |

recently had my car in complaining about shudder and they replaced the rear diff fluids and reset adaptations as step one. Think next is trans fluid and possibly the transmission itself if it doesn't get better.

While not a BMW situation, I experienced transmission shudder with my 2016 Corvette Z06 automatic transmission. So did many other A8 owners; it was somewhat common with the newer eight speed trans, enough that GM had a TSB on it. GM's solution to this, at least as a first step, was to perform a "triple flush" of the transmission fluid. I had this done (and at the time two other C7 Corvettes were in the dealer shop for the same thing). It resolved the issue completely. I don't know it a BMW dealer would do a triple flush, but your idea of changing transmission fluid seems sensible to me given my Z06 experience. Another issue I had with the Z06 from the beginning is that when cold first thing in the morning, the first shift from first gear to second is always long and slow. After that, it shifts normally. Nobody knows why and I don't worry about it. For the record, I have not had any issues with my 2019 540xi transmission. --Bob

What you’re describing sounds a lot like a transfer case issue rather than a gearbox issue - jerkiness at slow speed is typical of that; you would also experience the same under hard acceleration as well
