Depending on how far we could develop the concept, maybe it would be better to map out both Bimmercode and ProTools to help guide which tool is best suited to a particular need. Maybe some sort of a community-maintained Wiki would be best. I'm pretty new here; does the Forum support such a thing? |

1. Do the various ECUs have the same coding parameters regardless of which vehicle they are installed in? For example, if the X3 uses the same HU_MGU module as the G30, do we have the same coding options for both? 2. Based on the answer above, do the user-friendly coding tools (Bimmercode, ProTool) use the current vehicle series, model, or VIN to filter the coding options available? |

Here's what I was thinking of pulling together. This example is for the DKOMBI4 instrument cluster. The sheet indicates whether the option is available as a shortcut in BC, as a "Popular" or "Standard" option in PT, if there's a cheat available in E-Sys, and any comments that people may have. We'd need to find a shared location to store this where it could be maintained by the community.

OK, I finished my pass through the various ECUs and I've attached my findings for Bimmercode, ProTool, and E-Sys. I can only post this as a PDF here so until we find a place to share an Excel I'll just maintain my own copy.
To summarize, I went through the various ECUs in my G30 (2020 M550i) to identify coding options available in BimmerCode, ProTool, and E-Sys Cheats. This guide might help a prospective buyer decide which tool is best for them. In summary, ProTools clearly offers the most coding options but some are only available in BimmerCode. E-Sys has only a limited number of cheats available, although I excluded several that are not in English. |

Is there a cheat sheet for where to find items quickly to code? I'm BC I can easily find default drive mode and say 200 mph cluster. I spent time on protool and struggled to find these parameters. Also struggling to find bulb check warning settings. Any help would be great. I guess I am just not easily finding parameters I usually find quickly when I use BC.

When I first got it and fired it up, I had some issues coding and they told me to run the beta. On you Android device, in the google play store, click off allow betas next to it. It definitely takes some getting used to. It is powerful for power users, but I have found myself using both BC and PT at times. BC is definitely more straight forward.

Figured I'd be able to do everything BC can do and quickly find items. I gave up and used BC for 200mph speedo and changing default drive modes. Was going to use PT for ambient light but error reading BDC currently.

Sam_M550i You can use BC for ambient light, but you need to use Expert Mode and calculate the hex values for each color that you want. There are other threads here that explain how to do it. I actually did it that way myself before ProTool came out with their better way.
