Replacing control unit for Ionizer

Anyone DIY replace the ionizer module? I'm getting recurrent error 801230, and there seems to be a service bulletin about this that I cannot locate -- “64 11 974 Replace control unit for Ionizer.” Just wondering if this is a relatively simple project with access under dashboard or via glovebox, or does dashboard need to be removed?
