Ditto, I think Concert is the best sounding overall. It makes a HUGE difference in the HK system.

I understand, with true B&W, Studio is the cleanest with no sound processing. In my query here on SiriusXM, I did change modes just to see if the rears kicked in, they didn't.

I had a panel rattle from getting my windows tinted and found that one of the clips broke. Know that some headaches may pop up from the type of panel clips that G30's come with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. They're nice and seem really solid when they work right but terrible when they don't want to cooperate.

I ordered some of the older style like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and haven't had any problems since.

Today I checked my B&W front door midrange speakers carefully using the balance and fader controls. Sadly I am indeed affected. These speakers are dead on both sides.

I have a Platinum Extended Service Contract which covers "entertainment system" so I expect BMW to warranty this for me.

Is there not a TSB out on this issue? If not, there certainly should be. This is definitely a quality issue with significant scope.

Much appreciation and credit to hookson for the detailed posting and for development efforts on a repair kit that prevents this flaw.

After determining my B&W front door midrange speakers were both dead I ordered the rain shields and door clips from member Hookson ahead of visiting my local dealer.

With shields and clips in hand as well as a print out of this thread I set up the appointment at my dealership.

Once seated in front of the service advisor I carefully explained my issue, explained that the same issue was being experienced by numerous G30 and F90 owners with the B&W stereo system, and explained the purpose of the aftermarket rain shields to prevent future occurrence.

My 540i was then diagnosed by BMW technician with fault code 031D01 (Front left speaker output line disconnection) and code 031D06 (Front right speaker output line disconnection). The drivers side door card was removed to physically check the speaker. A determination was made to cover these speakers on my BMW Platinum Extended Service Contract. (I think very much due to a very nice Service Advisor because for water damage warranty coverage is kind of discretionary and I think the fact that I had a prevention plan contributed to my favorable decision).

Speakers were not in stock. Parts ordered: Qty 2: 65-13-9-279-635

I was given an appointment 9 days later for the speakers to arrive and be installed.

The technician provided commentary in the repair video that he had installed the aftermarket rain shields per customer request. The service advisor said the rain shields had clipped into place perfectly.

Special thanks to member hookson for making this product available. Hope everyone in the BMW community who has this speaker problem chooses to support hookson by obtaining his repair kit.

My stereo is back to 100% and hopefully even better than OEM now with the rain shields in the front doors to give it longevity.

So you have a 540 with B&W? That is very rare. Did you order it?

Glad your speakers are sorted out and glad a conscious member developed a fix for it. Great story. Mine are going strong. Probably because my car is a garage queen and doesn’t see rain. I do power wash it a lot.

Yes, my car was an ordered car. I waited more than 5 months for it as the dealer didn't even have an allocation for a 5-series when I made my deal. There is a very limited selection on Island here and they don't normally keep any 5 series sedans in stock, it's mostly the SUV's that seem to sell. Who knows, with the new G60 being so fugly I might have to learn to like the X3 M40i or X5 next time I'm ready to buy. BMW seems to take far less styling risk with their SUV lineup which is probably a good thing.

You might wanna consider putting the rain shields in as a preventative measure- I think it's just a matter of time. At today's prices those speakers are $184 each plus shipping. There are a lot of YouTube vids around on how to get the door cards off. A set of good plastic trim tools from Amazon and a Phillips screwdriver gets you there. A few door clips break in the process, but hookson provided extra door clips with the shields and the dealer used several of them during my repair. Pro tip- there seems to be a spot on the underside of the handle to insert the trim tool for initial separation.

Thanks Steve. I spent a few weeks in Maui a few years ago and as a car guy, I took note of the cars on the road. You don't see many BMW's in general there, nevermind a 5 series. It's got to be tough to enjoy a drivers car there. One single lane road pretty much back and forth with traffic limiting speed.

There are actually a lot of BMW's here on Maui, but very few 5 series. Certainly more Toyotas, Lexus, and Hondas, but BMW and Mercedes have also done well here. There's no Porsche or Audi dealer though.

As far as a link to the shields/clips... I just PM'd hookson directly and he can do PayPal or Venmo. He may have plans for a website later.

I'll have to check the speaker light- I don't drive often at night. I think it was also failed, but I thought those parts were integrated.
