The reason why I wish I had the rear facing camera is that I now notice bad drivers more and I tend to get ahead of them to prevent being stuck behind a car accident waiting to happen. The rear facing camera would be nice for insurance purposes if they start driving erratically behind me as well.

The downsides is the install will take a few minutes more and I'm not sure there is a way to mount the rear camera with an OEM look like the front camera.
How difficult is it to remove the 3 plastic sections behind the mirror? I actually have this camera, but thought the plastic removal would be a pain. The rest seems quite easy. I have an appointment to get it installed, but its 2 weeks out.

Edit:

I answered my question.
Install looks pretty easy Mark. The only tough part looks like plugging it in given the location. I can't see myself paying someone to install it, or rather I could not bring myself to that. I just don't want to be fumbling wiry a plug for an hour. My eyes aren't what they used to be.

I may take a stab at it. The shop was going to charge me $75 and they have taken these mirrors apart hundreds of times. I think thats reasonable, but it is 2 weeks out and I'd like to have this now. If I do tackle it, i will send you pics of the connectors on both car/cam.

I'm also going to use this place for window tint. The guy they have is excellent and several exotic cars get tints from them.

Its too easy to pay someone to do this. My hands are pretty big also and I didnt really have an issue.
Id definitely give it a shot on your own.

I removed the trim last week to fit a 422gw nextbase tucked up behind the rear view mirror. Invisible from inside the car and just the pad visible from outside. Note to nextbase make the pad black. It's so small that it cannot be seen. I have the screen off.

The 3 pieces of trim are tricky but not impossible. Piece 1 you are pressing on a hidden retainer and pushing up at the same time. The video shows you where to press. Tricky. Piece 2 you do need a thin trim removal tool and lever piece 2 apart from piece 3. Feels brutish but then it clicks and is loose. Piece 3 is easy. Put back together, much easier.

I did not use the existing wiper wiring but ran the nextbase wiring to the rhs fuse box. Via the headlining, easy and then down the pillar after removing it and behind the existing wiring so I was hit by an airbag and not wires if it went off. Connection to the fusebox was easy and plenty of room to store the excess cable.

Video quality is good. Enhanced by the polarising filter.

There's an app and a web interface. Both are pretty good but not customisable. They have telemetry if that's your thing. You can download the saved videos to the app by a wifi network created by the app , remove the micro sd card or connect the camera to your pc. All worrying is provided . The hardwired kit is extra or can be bought bundled. Cigarette lighter wiring provided There is a clever magnetic base enabling the camera to be removed easily leaving all the wiring behind untouched.

Please ask additional questions if you think I can help. No connection to nextbase, just an ordinary punter who has clocked up 3 score years and 10. If I can u can

Thanks, that would be great. Wiring is my thing. Under the hood, not so much. Definitely would appreciate some pictures.

In the current situation, I have this option of a more expensive solution, but full of parking protection, in fact my camera does not look as factory as yours but due to parking at work I must have parking security (front and rear) options. I can say that the installation is practically invisible from the inside ...

I really appreciate your reply, Thank you
Did you fit this yourself?
- Where did you plug the battery pack into?

I've got the same battery pack for my blackvue 950, my f30 had a 12v plug under passenger footwell so the battery was plugged into that, but the g30 doesnt and i don't know where to plug it in..

So taking off the plastic trim pieces were actually easier then I thought it would be. I’ve done blendmount and wire taps for the past 5-6 cars so thought it would be as easy as all the earlier ones. First try utter failure, gave up after an hour, called my stereo guy. He quoted me $150.00. HELL NO!! Watched more videos on YouTube and re watched, tewound the YouTube video referenced above and asked the community here for help. Success on the second try and in 10 minutes. If I can do it. Any one can do it.

Nice, just to confirm, you had no problem removing the trim but had trouble removing the plug?

Exactly. The trim pieces came off easy. Getting to the plug was the most difficult.

The plug is the hardest part especially with big hands.

I can't tell from the photos but would the rest camera get blocked by the retractable sunshade in that location? I didn't get the rear cause I thought it would be like a sore thumb but it's not bad

I thought it would look awkward as well, but it's really not bad. I remember someone posting that the camera is situated in front of the shade so it doesn't interfere and it actually hides the camera more.

Now I really wish I got the rear facing camera as well.

The camera goes in between the shade and the rear glass. It has to be placed close to the glass so that the movement of the shade is not hampered

Once the shade is up, it is completely hidden

Do you save dash cam footage?
How long do you save it for?

I delete all files that don't have Pax in them and transfer the rest to USB drives. I currently have 16+ TB's of saved files going back to Jan of 2019.

Do I drop another $100 on another USB Drive or do I start deleting old files????

I never had to look back more than 1 month in my files, I have had to look back for files for 3 scammers now and provided the files to Uber for review. I've got pretty good at resetting my camera to start a new file just before pax get in and also resetting the camera just after the pax gets out. This considerably saves storage space by eliminating up to 4.5 minutes of unneeded video before the pax gets in and after they get out. Amazing how many files had nearly 5 minutes of dead time at the beginning of end of the ride.

I don't save anything additional unless specific footage is needed. Otherwise, i just leave the footage to overwrite on its own.

The dash is a bit bulky and there's a cut out that looks like it's meant for some sort of sensor. Is this actually functional?

I'm tempted to go with the AliExpress one bc it's compact.

The cut out is for the automatic beam as far as I know.

I have bought and installed the 4K one form ali:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...2f871802270ywK

this is (for me) the same as FITCAMX and I even use fitcamx apk on my android phone

cost ca $94 (no SD card) (rain sensor used to share the power)

Im looking at this, really like the look of the front one and looks like it might be an easy one to do.

Im considering the rear one as well but not sure about the wiring for it and how easy it would be to feed the wire from the front to the back.... do you have to remove the roof liner or is there an easy path to route the wire from front to back.

Has anyone done the rear and got pictures of how they took the wire from front to back?

Go to the Fitcam website and watch the install videos or find them on YT. No the rear does not require removing the headliner. You run the wire along the edge trim and tuck.

Yeah have seen the YT video showing the front cam which looks pretty straight forward, just wondering about the path the rear camera cable takes.
