I waited. Why start the clock ticking on Route 66 while you have a factory warranty?

Route 66 starts the day you purchase it, so you'd just be wasting 4 years. My warranty expires on 22 Oct 2023, but I will purchase in September to give me a little room.

BTW Mark, I spent almost an entire day at Tulley driving X5's, unfortunately they did not have the X5 I wanted in inventory. I did go up a few days later to buy All Weather Mats for it. Got an incredible price for them of $178 no tax where everywhere else wanted $225-$250. I have heard bad things about the service, but overall I was impressed with the dealership and the vibe there.

Share pics when you get it! I drove the X5 also, but think i'm set on getting a Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. The tech and goodies the Jeep has blows away the X5. The air suspension alone is incredible! If you have not driven one, go check it out.

Oh we drove the Grand Cherokee fully loaded. It was sweet and much cheaper. Had the McIntosh sound system too. Just too damn big for my GF who is the daily driver.

The X5 handles way better than the Jeep, but thats not what I'm looking for in a SUV. My dad had a Cherokee 25 years ago, its amazing how much they've come along. I was floored by all the tech in the jeep. About 3x more than we have in our 550's. Did you guys drive the "L" version of the Jeep? Its definitely longer with 3rd row seats. Not interested in that either, just the 2 rows which is about the same size as the X5.

At the end of the day though, you are right, none of the other options drove or handled like the X5. I also wanted to see what all this B58 hype was all about. Not disappointed in this engine so far. Plenty of juice and smooth.

No, she would, lol!
I am admittedly a car snob, especially with Chrysler. I'll never forget the K-Car Lebaron era. But as long as I can put something into perspective I am fine. Yes, it is a Chrysler, but it was significantly cheaper. Maybe $25,000 if you configured them the same. Was I ever seriously close on the Grand Cherokee? I'll really never know, it was a non-starter because of it's size.

Just called BMW Assured Warranty to renew the existing BMW used car warranty only to be told that they won't cover it due to the Schnitzer exhaust system as the BMW extended warranty is underwritten by a different underwriter & the extended warranty underwriter will only except the BMW MPerformance system, Bloody Bastards, now I know some of you will think that I shouldn't have declared it but I know that the Schnitzer exhaust was noted on the paperwork when it went in to have the sunroof sorted under warranty.
The G31 is in to my local MD on Monday to sort the telematics & leaking shark fin out, my SA also said that they'd carry out a vehicle health check to see if there are any issues that can be sorted under the existing warranty before it runs out in the 20th of this month. Am a bit miffed that I can't now out a BMW warranty on it, may have a look into other warranty companies or just roll the dice & hope that it doesn't cost more than £1,060 in repairs over the coming year

This made me look at the Route 66 language again though. I think I am good. It basically says All Items Covered Under The Manufacturers Original; Coverage". So no, they aren't going to repair my Dinan exhaust nor would I expect them to, but they aren't going to void my contract because of it. Dealer/BMW has done several repairs with the exhaust on. The only comment I got on the Dinan exhaust was a compliment from the tech working on it. In terms of Exclusions, "repairs as a results of alteration not recommended by the manufacturer". The way I interpret this is if a part failed because of a modification it would not be covered, not not an overall contract killer. I have zero worry about the exhaust causing failures to other areas. Just doesn't happen, it is an exhaust. Now my piggy back tune (which I also got a compliment on) is something I might want to pull if there is any chance the adjuster might come out. All this said, these aftermarket warranty's are a slippery slope. I waffled many times on to do it or not. In the end, both the dealer and my indie said to go for it. I asked them about the modifications and they both said, only if the modification resulted in a failure of something else, which is the same thing the dealer said to me about the factory and CPO warranty's. My tech's video at my BMW dealership (I made up the complaint about the oil leak so they would dig in and look over the engine):

For BMW in the US, at least, it depends on the dealership how much trouble you’d have with the warranty on your car being nixed based on modifications. It is one of the reasons Dinan offers their own “wrap” warranty in case BMW gives a hard time. https://www.dinancars.com/dinan-warranty/ A lot of people like the third party extended warranties as an independent shop is less likely to care enough to tell the warranty company about any third party modifications. Always a bit of risk with third party mods. Legally they can’t drop the warranty without “proof that the modification is at fault”, but that sounds like a one sided fight. I’d imagine the Dinan wrapper would protect you though. Exhaust systems are usually covered by 8Y under the Federal Emissions Warranty and in a CARB state for certain cars could go as long as 15Y. |

Yeah, it's a bit of a shitter, especially as ACS is an approved BMW tuner & it made no difference to the BMW AUC warranty but as the guy said its a different underwriter for extended & although the exhaust wouldn't have anything to do with, for example a panroof failure the non 'approved' exhaust would be on the work sheet & the warranty company could refuse the claim, especially if it were an expensive one & insurance companies being what they are I suspect they would even if it is unrelated & if it were to have anything drive chain or suspension they'd definitely put it down to the 'additional' power provided by a 'non approved' exhaust system...Well..fuk em, I wanna add it ain't gonna go expensively wrong...but it's Friday 13th

I've never had the experience yet, but I think it depends on what they are repairing. I believe if its going to cost the Warranty company a good chunk of change, they will send someone out. I cant imagine them sending someone out for a $500 repair, as that would probably be the cost of sending an adjuster.
