The rear of the new renderings has a resemblance to the current 2-series, it must be a new "design language"
I would prefer the rear to be somewhat similar to the current 6-series, it looks great. I also hope the new 5-series will be significantly lighter (around 1650kg with a 6-cylinder engine). I drove all kinds of 5-series cars including M5 and there is so much power wasted to move that weight, power that could be used to generate additional shove in the back in a lighter car. |

Not too bad.
I wonder...it must be some law or something. I notice that all these new cars have reflectors low in the bumper. In the past these were always integrated into the rear units, for a much cleaner design. Either units are too complicated now with LED, neon glow, laserlight or it's some law I don't know about.

This is the clear result of market saturation. They have created so many different models and variations, they know the enthusiasts are eyeing certain models, and the masses need these watered down al la carte.

What year would this come out? What year is the 5 series redesign available isn't it 2018 and this rendering is way too early to be accurate?

And the whole M-sport thing is more a financial move than anything else. The base models on the new BMs look bland and uber boring. So you're already almost 'pot commited' to add the $3-5k M-sport package. You add that up across the million cars they sell per quarter...that's quite a bit of pocket change. And btw, the lower quarter of the front fascia looks just like a VW Passat. This render is horrible. |

As long as it is not the same Team that designed the X4, it should be fine.
I'm still disappointed about that thing, specially since BMW is selling it for 4 series range of price. |

That was less than a year before F10 was released. Pretty accurate except that the optics were a bit to 7series like. The recent rendering is like too years before G30's commercial birth so there'a a fair chance that it would be even less accurate than the F10 rendering IMO. |

The grill is way to big. As you stated the headlights are slightly off. The roofline/greenhouse is way off. In this pic it looks rounded like an Audi to me. And as a previous poster stated this render was farther along in the process. This was the first render by them Last edited by deadfresh; 08-19-2014 at 11:58 AM.. |

The F10/11 has sold excellent next to the E6*.
I guess the next 5 coming 2017 is a subtile change, as this render shows. It may not be spot on, but it shows the big pieces. Hopefully it will be powered from I3 to the mighty V10 TT! More info scott?

You do know that renders and reports that appear in magazines are controlled, right? Its all to inspire debate and feedback.
The 5er sets the precedent from next years all new 7er which follows the design lead illustrated in this car - The Vision Future Luxury or as it will be eventually called the BMW 9er sets the template for future BMW models with more edgier and aerodynamic styling and technical supremacy. The new look is to showcase minimalism and lightness in design due to the specific lightweight material technology that will heavily feature in the next line of BMW models. In which the 5er will drop around 100KG in its standard form. The M5 will drop further. The front of the car seen in the render has a bit more angular lights but new BMWs will incorporate L-shaped front as well as rear lights. As shown on the VFL Light units are placed higher at the rear because of LED technology they allow the lights to be longer and slimmer and positioned higher - The 7er also introduces this. Like the 7er , the 5er will also be available with optional Laser light technology hence much behind the scenes deliberation to get the i8 certified in North America because the investment also pertains to future BMW models. How the balance of thinner , longer and higher light placement appears on the new line of BMW sedans.
