Luxury line with adaptive suspension vs M-sport (handling)
Hi,
Would a G30 with luxury line and adaptive suspension handle worse than an M-sport (with or without adaptive suspension)? I can imagine it would be soft in comfort, but would it handle nicely in sport mode? Or is the difference between packages only aesthetics? Thanks a lot. |

The luxury like and msport are the trim levels
If they both have adaptive suspension they will handle the same So the luxury line will by default have the SE suspension ie the softer set up Msport will have the 704 suspension set up which will lower the car by 10mm and have a firmer ride Adaptive (which will be the same height as SE) will be , er well adaptive giving you a choice a softer set up or a firmer set up Now on the subjective bit is which you prefer. The type of tyres or have whether normal or runflat and the size of wheel will also determine how it behaves Everyone here will have a preference , it really something you have to try your self to see what you prefer. Sorry that doesn’t really answer your question ! |

Thanks AP,
This is actually what I was wondering. So in conclusion given the same tyres and wheels they will both handle the same if they have both adaptive suspension. |

I had a Luxury Line with normal suspension so I’m not much help. But I assume that if they both have adaptive, it will be the same setup.

I can’t comment on the m sport but I really like the adaptive on my G31, I usually have it set to adaptive when pottering about, comfort is a bit floaty but very comfortable which I mainly use on motorways & long boring journeys & in sport it’s nice & firm & handles very nicely indeed.
Try both & see which you prefer

Thank you for the information AP (and thanks to Franxx for starting the thread). It's great to be part of such a forum and have a chance to discuss and learn from you guys.
This was something I thought about when I was thinking about buying my car. I had personally test driven 2 luxury G30s before ending up buying my 530i M kit. The luxury line cars had a softer ride and were less bumpy but I didn't notice any change in handling or performance. Needless to say I was just testing these cars and didn't push them to anywhere beyond normal/slightly aggressive driving. Attached are the codes of my car. As AP said 704 indicates M suspension, while 715 indicates M external body parts. And I think the code 2VF indicates adaptive suspension (I don't have it, but this is what I found on the net) According to BMW.com, this is what they say on code 704: ''The M Sport suspension (SA 704) is notable for more sporty suspension settings with tighter damper settings. It also features a moderately higher spring constant and harder anti-roll bars. Combined together, they result in an even more direct suspension design, which enables a distinctly sporty driving style.'' |

It ain't my bag. The 704 is very good, with the exception of damper rebound, which could be slightly stiffer, but this is the case for the 3er as well (M340 I drove), and nothing a good set of aftermarket dampers can't solve. If you are looking for sporty handling with a bit of "Restkomfort" as they say over here, 704 is the ticket. |

We actually own both. My wife drives a 2017 530 x drive Luxury line with multi countour seats. I drive a 2019 540 x drive m sport with sport seats.
Her car sits substantially higher than mine. She has 18” rims and I have 19” rims. Her car is super comfortable and absorbs the bumps much more civility. Her car handles fine for a cruiser and even if you are a little spirited. My car is much more of a drivers car but at the expense of some comfort. A lot of people are surprised how harsh the ride is for a BMW. For me it’s perfect. The handling is great. I have damaged a few tires and rims in spots my wife’s car is unaffected. Both are are perfect for us and our tastes. My wife dislikes driving my car in terms of comfort in seats and suspension. |

I have a 2019 540 xdrive msport with dhp… I’ve driven both the 704 passive suspension as well as mine with the adaptive. Personally, it comes down to the ride you’re looking for but also how are the roads near you? If I lived in an area where the roads were maintained well and not riddled with potholes, expansion joints, and in need of constant repair I’d probably go with the 704 to save $ as well as simplify the setup. Unfortunately, due to the poor conditions I have to navigate on a daily basis the dhp is a very good balance between sportiness, flat cornering with the active roll bars, and cruising on the freeway. The car doesn’t float in sport and sport+ is rock solid at high speeds too. The main issue is initial cost and replacement cost of you own the car.
