The 2020 M50 we drove DID still have the off button. Which means I could could it out with Bimmercode…
Does the X7 40i have the mild hybrid that manages the ASS (if I recall correctly, it was implemented in the B58 MY21 onwards)? I heard it isn't that intrusive with the mild hybrid system. It is ironic though that a system that was meant to reduce emissions is so bad that people switch to sport mode which worsens emissions as compared to the other modes.

Agreed, if it worked so well there is a reason why people look to turn it off and they aren't all people like us. If it wasn't intrusive, the average person would not care.

Yes I believe it does have that system. It’s a 2021.

Honestly there are a handful of reasons I’m considering this 2020 M50, even though it’s older and priced too high. Carmax’s warrranty is half the cost of others so that helps cancel the dumb asking price (no haggle of course!). And 2020 has the updated engine and built before Covid shortages on parts and labor. Has things like the ability to code off ASS. The thing has 20k miles on it. I got a trade quote from a BMW dealer. If Carmax beats it by a few grand, I’ll actually have to consider it. No bowers though… otherwise it would be a no brainer.

There is really only one major reason - 523hp. Anyone, including you, who moved from the B58 to the N63 knows what we are talking about

Haha that’s THE reason… the rest is secondary and just the best deal.

1,000+ hp in a two car garage is a nice thought. Maybe I’ll name the garage and hang a sign that says “1,000 Horsepower Club”

In your sleep hahaha. On Facebook groups, people tag me when a pic of a G30 is posted with grill stripes and they say, uh oh, Joe ain't gonna like this. My reputation is proceeding me on that topic.

If it works for you, more power to you.

It's an individual decision.

All I can say is that the benefits and costs of the system are commensurate with one another. If you're saving a lot of fuel, it means the system is "active" a lot which means all those costs (wear/tear, etc.) are higher as well.

Perhaps the reason I don't see much of a benefit is I have the 2.0L which idles @ 4 liters per hour (a little over a gallon an hour) and I don't spend that much time idle in my trips, probably not even half an hour per tank. 2L savings on a 60L fillup to me just isn't that much.

If you have the 40i or 50i where your idle consumption is much higher, 6/8L per hour AND you have more city driving and long lights then yeah I could totally understand using the system.

Yes, I agree with you. The tradeoff is most sensible on cars that consume lots of fuel.
