How to identify/repair faded black gloss grill part
Can anyone help me identify the part number for centre piece between the two grills? Someone has previously washed the car with some harsh chemicals and its caused the plastic to glaze over. Tried GTechnique C4 but the plastic is not porous enough for it to soak in. Unless I can identify a part number to replace it, I'm going to have to get it painted (not ideal).
Thanks. Matt Last edited by Storrm; 03-13-2024 at 03:26 PM.. |

Go to realoem.com and look up based on your VIN number.
Has nothing to do with harsh chemicals...just sunlight and weather, are the cause of the fading. Garaged cars are less affected...or will take longer to show the issue. 51137349586 Last edited by 430Scud; 03-16-2024 at 03:05 PM.. |

Ahh you wonderful person. I looked everywhere for that part. Unfortunately I cant garage my car. Any idea how I can protect these glossy items? I've just ordered replacements for the right and left finisher and grills which are both severely affected in the same way. Not brilliant for a car less than 4yrs old

So on my car, I noticed it is fading as well and my car is always garaged and only has 15k miles (2018 M550iX). I have the camera, so part number 51137349589. Its only $22 at FCP Euro Part and comes with a lifetime warranty, so if it fades, I can order another and return the old one for credit.

Thanks all. I bought/fitted the part and it now looks beautiful ;-). Just the side finishers to refresh and the front end is looking like new

Just replaced my camera trim between the grills today.
I used this video for details on removal and installation. Unlike the video, I found it easier to remove starting at the top. Then installed starting from the bottom. Using a plastic interior removal tool was helpful as well. |
