so the "sad model" will be even more sad with only 3 cyl! Why the hell someone should buy a 143hp 5er btw? Here it's 2000€ cheaper than a 520d, running costs are about the same but driving experience it's so bad on such car. Even the 520d it's slow for what i've seen, the car weight too much for that engine...

50 km? For a model going to be on the market 2017-2022 something? Are they joking? I really like my current 5-series (F11). Only thing is that I really would like electrical drive so would love to see that in next gen 5'er. But 500 km range is kind of minimum... 50 is just a joke. I know other people look forward to an M5 etc. But one doesn't rule the other out. |

Of course it should be no problem to loose weight with new tech, and BMW can certainly achieve it. But I said it's a rumour, because it's not confirmed and the next gen are still many years away. It might even be a larger loss of weight... |

It's always going to be a love hate thing at first. But we all know whatever they design. We'll love It. I saw the new x5 in person and it's so nice.
I'm probably going to trade in for the new 550/M5 when it comes out. I like the back of the render. |

Too early, when I was checking the same magazine for the any clues on the F10 even few months before 1st pictures appeared the rendering by Autobild was based on the new 3 series just simply larger, I see the same logic applied here, they of course got it so wrong, the 5 should be different from the 3 series otherwise BMW is simply joining the ranks with Audi and the unique single design they have, with different sizes.

as for the exterior look, there are going to be many variations to begin with. Whatever is the rendered pics are now, they will most likely not even look anything like this when the final production version is released.
Do want to see laser headlights on the next 5 series. Top that, Audi !! |

The 520d is a very capable car and the engine doesn't really feel underpowered |

First a turbo M, and now AWD??? If they seriously make an AWD M car I'm going to start flipping tables.

M5 Wishlist
The new M5 with 600 BHP and AWD sounds nice but I would rather they work on the e-diff, power delivery at higher RPM to achieve better traction and higher rev range.
M were never light but they were always beautifully balanced instruments that had very neutral handling charataristics. Understeer is good for the safety normal range cars but on M car it is frustrating. |

Honestly I don't see a lot more than mere speculation. Current 520d does 4.5l/100km and has 184hp, so I suppose that the next entry level four cylinder could easily do 4.0l/100km with circa 200hp. Pure electric 5er would be better than a hybrid, because it's simpler and lighter and anyway the 50km range in ev mode in 2020 is a bad joke. I truly hope that bmw keeps rear-wheel drive in its lower end models but honestly i'll buy a m235i as soon as i'm able to.

I'm talking about the cars that historically were the face of BMW Motorsport- the M5 and the M3. These cars were historically RWD and NA, and that's what separated them from everyone else that tried to compete with M in the sports car market. I can forgive BMW for going FI for their M cars, although I'd never buy one, but it will be sad if BMW does decide to offer AWD M cars as it will just be purely for market expansion.

Autocar UK take on the 2017 5 series
Autocar UK has a much sleeker rendering, inspired by the Pininfarina Gran Lusso Concept car presented at this year's Villa d'Este...
here's their article... Enjoy the read!
