Odds on 6MT in the US?
What do you think the odds are that the new Funfer comes to the US with three pedals? Somehow
I doubt it, but having sat in a new 7 series yesterday, I think the new 5 is going to be mighty tempting. But given what I went through with my previous 535, I am very wary of the automatic. Thoughts? |

I don't think there's any chance of seeing one in North America in any trim.
I really hope I'm wrong, but just don't see it happening. Percentage of car buyers looking for MT in N. America is around what, 10% maybe ? That number is much smaller within buyers of this type of car, close to zero demand for this. |

Funny, my local dealer refers to my car as "The Unicorn". Yet 1 out of 5 F10 550i's I see around here have a stick (and I'm not talking about M5s), so I'm not sure I entirely agree with the notion that 5-series buyers don't want manuals. They do have to perform all their crash tests on models with a different transmission to see how the drivetrain behaves, so the added cost of that alone might be what deters the bean counters from offering manuals for sale here. Surely they would sell every manual offered. An enthusiast oriented management team (as opposed to the current batch of total dweebs in NJ) would offer the G30 and G31 with 3 pedal petrol and diesel versions.

I sent a request to BMW via their BMW Genius email to ask for a manual transmission in the G30. I would love to replace my 2011 535i 6 speed manual with a new one! They will certainly produce them for Europe, but I agree it is a matter whether there is enough demand to offer and certify for the US.
