They seem easy enough to find lightly preowned but more difficult brand new. I'm guessing most of them are customer ordered and don't just show up and sit on the lot.

The newer m550 are more desirable because they are now closer to m5 power. Once car reviewers got there hands on them, people drive demands up.

Nobody knows what BMW is going to do with its next "hybrid" 5 Series lineup, but I'd bet the V8 gets replaced by the I6 just for weight savings alone.

I think the N63 will probably stop at this tu3 version. The good news is that there will be more of them in the UK for at least another 5 years due to the fact Jaguar Land rover have signed a deal to replace the old 5.0 supercharged with it for the remainder of ICE production. That means there will be good local aftermarket support.

If you want to buy an electric car, I'm all for it. But making your entire fleet electric is just ridiculous. I can't even begin to get started on this whole electric car fiasco. Nothing like your whole society depending on one energy source… no security risk there. Imagine hosting Christmas dinner, 15 people are plugging into your house for electricity. Now you have to include on the invitation, please ensure your vehicle is fully charged prior to arriving to my house. Having an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, I'm probably one of a few people that have done an honest end to end carbon emission analysis on internal combustion engines versus electric vehicle. The juice isn't worth the squeeze. The amount of energy used by companies like Amazon, Facebook and Twitter is astronomical. Billions and billions pounds of coal have to be burned per year to provide energy to those server farms… if I wanted to order one toothpick from Amazon, I could literally have them come to my house and deliver one toothpick at least 350 days per year. No emissions problem there. The hypocrisy is staggering. At least 2.5 pounds of coal have to be burned per year just to charge your phone. Think of how many billions of phones there are. Almost 6,000,000,000 phones in use today. This is not an attack on electric cars., But making them mandatory across the board is not clearly thinking the situation through. I have yet to hear anything about the byproduct of electric motors, ozone…. Wont that be a problem if every vehicle is electric? I believe in a balance. Anyways…Ive geeked out enough today. I think they'll figure this out the hard way. It's all political marketing. I think the car companies know the math. They have too many engineers not to. They're getting ahead of the politics. If the politicians come back to reality, I think we will get a mix of fuel types. I think BMW is doing the smart thing by getting more into the PHEV. That's a technology that makes more long term sense to me.

Im not sure how big the US market is for JLR, but for UK their plans to go electric tie in with Government Policy that no new Fossil Fuelled cars can be sold from 2030. Again, not sure if the US have similar goals.
It will also tie in with this which is on the JLR HQ / Factory doorstep https://www.ukgigafactory.com/ I assume others to take advantage of this gigafactory will be Lotus who have moved closer to this site, Aston Martin, LEVC (London black cab company and Volvo via Geely), and BMW i think with their plants within 100miles of this site. As to the question of how many M550's were produced. I would like to see the number supplied to the US by model year. I am not really interested in the 2021 and 2022 MY's because those were impacted and continue to be impacted by COVID. Just curious of the allocation so I know, for example, how exclusive it is or isn't in the US for 2018 MY.
2022M550i , I am with you brother. A lot of ignorance out there with people just jumping on the political/tree hugger movement without really understanding the big picture. I will say this and have said it, I will be the very last person in the US to give up my ICE powered BMW. I will definitely be hanging onto one or two of them, but I wonder how long before the government makes me get rid of them.

I reached out to someone at BMW corporate communications asking if they can provide us with the US M550i production numbers by year...we'll see if they can help.
I purchased the M550i knowing the V8 will eventually be extinct. I also bought my Viper knowing we'll never see another American made naturally aspirated V10 again. A sign of the times....but at least they are in my stable! |

Germany is learning what a huge mistake it was to shut down their nuclear plants. How's that imported gas and oil working for ya? Back on topic: I will be interested to see the numbers/color combos/etc. if BMW will provide them. I know some folks have been able to do it in some of the other subforms (E9x M3, etc.). Seeing the individual colors that made it over here is always interesting. I'm gonna weep if I see an Imola red M550. I saw an M5 in Imola at the Performance Center in California and it was spectacular.
