When does MY 22 change to MY23 on production line ?

Hi all

Apologies if this is buried somewhere but I can find a clear answer.

Is there a formal date when production switches from one MY to the next ? If so does it apply to all markets.

Many thanks.

Maybe something has changed with all the disruptions ?

I'm seeing VIN numbers that were built in April and May with the P (2023) digit in the VIN. Feb builds had N.

Are these G30 VINs?

I don’t see how a MY2023 G30 could have been built in April. The MY pricing updates just got released a week or so ago.

Yes G30 VIN ….. the year code seems to have been changed in March or April by BMW from N to P.

I've got a list of 6 G30 VINs for units currently being shipped all with P year code.

I've also spoken to one of the admin staff at the dealership this evening and the customs papers all reflect 2023 Model Year.

It only caught my attention as the dealer here in Dubai has new lease rates and prices now for MY 2023 which I questioned thinking how can a 2023MY be built in April ….. I then checked the VIN and it was correct.

the sales programs are based on the month the car actually sells, not when it is built. at least this is the case in the USA.

Interesting, as MY change often brings spec, colour and / or package changes with it, although possibly that hasn't happened this year.

So are you saying in the US a MY22 that's been in stock a while would sell at the same price as a newly built MY23 just because they flip into July ?

The new prices published by BMW for G30 MY23 seem to have changed in May this year not July (or at least that's the way I read it.)

Sorry for the confusion. What I mean is that there is a specific program for each month. So there is a May program, then a a program for June will come along and the program will contain the incentives and such per model/model year etc.

So if I go to the dealership today, the lease program can be different if I go next month- even if its for the same specific vehicle.

Hope this helps.

Ok yeah …. Got that ….. I was actually more focused on the earlier reply suggesting that MY changed in July for all markets. (I know that wasn't you)

I am a general consumer so I have no insider details on what the story is there.

I wasn’t aware that BMW shifted MYs for specific markets. Especially since the G30 is built in a small number of plants. Usually automakers re-tool their factories and training for the new MY all at once.

Maybe BMW has changed this? Seems off to me. But I have no way to explain MY2023 VINs in April if that’s what you’re seeing for the G30.

I would agree but I have a list of 8 G30's all either with the dealer here or in shipment to Middle East …. 2 built in January have the N year digit MY22 and 6 built April or May have the P year digit MY23. Also the MY23 price list published by BMW NA starts from May.

I'm not all that familiar with VIN decoding, but the 10th place in the VIN is an N.

If yours was definitely built this week then it would seem to suggest that Model years are changed according to market.

In the US last year, it was mid-July when my MY22 began production. I saw a MY22 M550i on a showroom floor (via AuotTrader search around the country) by the first week of August.
