What's the point of this drag race anyways? What are you trying to prove?

Think it's clear with the focus on 0-60 times (over lap), AWD, auto etc. BMW now has with the 5 series, they are aiming it at the quick luxo-barge market (read Audi RS6/E63 crowd). Maybe that's their customer now.

If so, very sad.

That said, no-one has driven/lapped/tested the M5 yet so benefit of the doubt eh?

Considering 99.99% of 5 series don’t hit a race track and only get to drag race via a stop light, I’d say it’s pretty relevant to show how fast the new 550i is.
IDK, I’m impressed how fast it is in a straight line compared to the current M5. It’s a good reference.

And this isn’t meant to start a pissing war. Wouldn’t this make the new 550 the fastest production BMW 0-60, including all the M models? It seems to hit that buyer perfectly, like me (even though I don’t want one). I have a track car, would never track a M5, I want something fast, but comfortable, I don’t need an M5 for dropping the kids off at school but can smoke every BMW at a stop light...until the new M’s come out.

The F90 M5 will be faster in all areas, but still I can't even imagine that controlling a ZF8 will be any fun compared to a DCT or 6MT in the F10. Then there's the fact that owners will be listening to the same exact exhaust note as the F10.
Where's the excitement in that? There will just be no drama with the F90. It will truly be a 4-door Nissan GTR. No thanks. Lol!
I'm thinking I'm keeping my F10, I take it you're with me.

Anyone think BMW de-tunes the M550i when the new M5 hits the showrooms?

Would love to see this comparison properly done by someone who actually knows what they're doing.
You expected a roll race on a thread with drag race in the title? You want a roll, hit the bakery!
Trap speeds are irrelevant with a gap like that, the F10 got destroyed. I?ve driven plenty of both and the G30 is a better car in many areas. The F90 will be a beast.

Have you driven both? The F10 subtraction challenged and everyone knows spinning ain?t winning.

Ha, the M5 is the Miata in this comparo

Honestly though the F10 M5 is useless at anything below 70 mph with WOT, just spin spin spin. Having driven both I would still take the F10 M5 over the M550. Cant wait to try the new M5 though!

I'm not surprised at all , I have too read that G30 550i is the fastest car to date if not the fastest 5 Series . Anyway , what's the point of this video ? To offend F10 M5 Owners or to show that G30 is so improved that it can even leave behind the once the fastest M 5 Series
I will not bother to watch it ,I can't stand crap musics playing background thanks for heads up

The F10 M5 is a great car....it just shows the new 5 is really great, too.

These are everyday cars, not track cars. I never cared if a car was faster from a roll or from 70-130. You almost never drive in situations where that is needed....even when flexing against another car.

Agree, This comparo is more about the virtues of AWD vs RWD in high HP vehicles.

I can't figure why anyone is surprised by the results.

It seems to me that the market only wants 4000 lb awd automatic cars... and crossovers... nothing else should be made.

I'd take a 4 door GTR. Had the opportunity to track the GTR for a half day and loved it. I think the F80 is close enough at my level and limited track usage.
