Is this the fake sound through the speakers or a recording of what it sounds like from outside the car?

Not seeing the novelty. Sounds as bland as ever. But at least I hope that this time the sound is loud enough so that they can remove the artificial engine sound from the cabin...it is a disgrace to BMW.

Haven't heard it yet but imagine it sounds like any 4.4 V8 BMW makes. Doesn't quite have that throatyness a large displacement V8 should have. In fact most modern V8s seem to lack soul like those of the past. Dare I say the 340i MPPSK sounds better.

This is literally the soundtrack that will play on the ASD over the speakers.

More than likely.

I'm not saying this one sounds bad. It's just not aggressive enough for me. And yes, I love how my M4 ZCP sounds with MPE. But you learn something new everyday on this forum. As the owners of the worst sounding M of all times, I guess we don't get to criticize or express our opinion on other M cars' exhausts lol. What about non-M owners (especially 28i owners)? What should they do? Better keep their mouth shut at all times right? Unless they have something good to say... This is a forum and of course there are always going to be both positive and negative comments on every subject by everyone regardless of what they drive. I can own a f*cking Prius and still not like how the new M5 sounds.

My thoughts exactly. As this is literally a soundfile we are listening to.

Finally they figured this out. Current generation of M (f10,80,etc) suck in sound department

You could probably just Bluetooth it through the speakers in your car - should sound just like it will coming through the "Active Sound" of the new M5...

I'd be curious to find out how many people who think this doesn't sound aggressive enough for a stock forced induction BMW were listening to the clip on a flip phone. Sounds pretty great in my opinion, not as iconic as the legendary motors of the past but a step forward from anything currently on sale with the S63.

Sounds pretty good in the video, which means it'll only sound even better in person! Can't wait to get one.

I wonder for the F90, if I can mute all the external sounds by plugging in my headphones into the jack...

A well-recorded "soundtrack"

I was impressed with the recording. It definitely sounds like sound miked outside the car, possibly with two or 3 mikes. The crackles have to be miked from behind the car, and judging from the wind noise we hear which sounds in excess of just exhaust airflow, I'd say this was done on a vehicle in motion.
Also, the turbos can be clearly heard spooling up around 13 seconds, so I'd say there's a mic mounted in front of the kidney grilles as well. That's a sound you don't get in the ASD of any of the BMW's that have it.

For the haters that are looking for a chance to bash ASD, this is far to complex a set of sounds to just be ASD. ASD is 3-4% of the total sound you hear inside the car, and provides welcome augmentation of what you do hear-specifically the sense of rpm under the hood. Find the threads where ASD has been scrutinized, de-coded or fuse pulled to be disabled and you'll find that most of those folks found they didn't like it without and reverted their settings. If you still love the sound of your E39 M5, E90 M3, or E60 M5, I respect that. Those cars sound wonderful. The fact of the matter is that turbo'ed motors are here to stay and shy of removing all the sound deadening from the firewall and dash, so is ASD in our newer cars.

For the haters who feel the sound isn't aggressive enough, consider that low frequency sounds are hard to capture with close range microphones on the back of a moving car by nature of their wavelength. When I crank my vintage Cerwin-Vegas, they don't rattle my chest until I'm 2/3 of the way across the room. All the way across the room, even better. Yeah, not great for my neighbors, so I only do so when I see they're gone, LOL. Aggressive needs low frequency. An aggressive wasp isn't as scary as an aggressive pachyderm. I think this car is going to sound great for an S63 variant engine. I'm sure the aftermarket will manufacture more aggressive sound for those who want it.

There far too many poison makers out there in this forum.

As a BMW divotee, I criticize as much as praise but overwhelmingly being part of this forum the aim is to support BMW to stay on mission with the products that I have loved since childhood.

Sadly, I see far too many hateful and negative for the sake of it comments from some members.
