M550i impressive in a straight line, shame it's not coming to the UK as I'd be interested to see how it copes with B roads. Would probably make a superb tourer/wagon.
Oh well, thanks BMW yes I'd honestly love a FWD tart's Chelsea tractor instead of this. |

I call :bs: on the drag race video
The drag race seems completely off, like the M5 driver let off the gas completely. Or maybe he launched with full DSC on that cut the power on him.

Seriously, I love it when I get side by side at the light with a "fat cat" in his $100k - 5 series dragster ...

You should see the hole shot my wife gets on me when she had here400hp E70 on my E90 M3. Blew my doors off. She would still kill me in my f80 until I got rolling and into mid second gear then I would scoot past her. AWD + almost identical torque will provide a huge advantage.
If that F10 had another 19" of tire width I am sure it would do better

It was funny how the other day I ended up lining with an i8 on the traffic light and the lane was ending after it. Whoever got there first had to be ahead. i8 tried pretty hard but i had given him a car length and was still pulling

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the E63 in this thread. It has M5 power and AWD. It is faster on the strip but not as nimble on the track typically. That will likely be an indicator of how quick the new M5 may be. My guess is mid 11s and 120s with a 3.2s 0-60 but better on the twisty stuff than either the M550 or the Merc.
For a luxury sedan, the 550 is not anything to scoff at anyway. The E63 is easily 120k with a few options and I imagine the M5 will be too.

Yeah, merged on the highway after that and went full m3xico. I have the videos but i'd rather not post. On other news i've roll raced a 2017 GTR and he comfortably pulled on me (duh). B8.5 S4 with tune+catless beat me too but it was close, maybe he was lying about the mods, not sure as he beat my friend with a 400whp 335i too (FBO+ps2).
Edit: S4 is about 440whp

The new model is refined, enhanced, and strengthened in every way compared to the old chassis. Your chassis is now what-10 years old? Just saying instead of dismissing it just cause it's not your model, give credit where credit is due. And the new Auto is a superior choice to clunky/jerky/slippy DCT. With the power/torque of new engines along w/ how fast traditional autos are today, there's no reason not to use a traditional auto. Prime choice, BMW.

I know I know I know, I see it all the time. ///M owners automatically call BS when an ///M gets beat by a non ///M. The non-M in this case is just superior because it's newer. And this is coming from an owner of ///Ms.

The M5's factory claimed 0-60 is 3.7s, the M550i's is 3.9s. There is no way in hell, assuming a fair run, that the M550i is beating the M5 like this video portrays.
We don't know shit about the drivers of the two cars doing laps either. The M5 will most certainly be leagues faster around the track. Even the ~6sec or so shown in the video shows the M550i is NOT a track car at all. The M5 isn't even a track car, but a saloon sports car. The only track car BMW makes is the M4 GTS. |
