Question Ticking / Clicking problem when turning at low (parking lot) speed

Hello guys this is my first post here. Welcome to everybody! So I have a BMW g30 540i X drive and the car is at 120,000 kilometers.

The problem I'm having is that when I am turning to each direction at slow speed like when I'm in a parking lot, the car makes a fairly loud ticking noise or you could say a clicking noise. I believe it's coming from the front of the vehicle. I also think it does it only at certain degrees in terms of steering.

There are no issue codes. The gearbox shifts smoothly and everything runs fine. No problems with power or steering or braking or anything like that. I have brand new tires sports package and they've been balanced.

I am wondering where this issue might be coming from. The car was imported from Canada to my home country so I can't tell you when this has started to happen. It's been a problem ever since I bought it.

I'd really love to get some support from you on this matter. I have attached a video with sound below. You see that on the video I am driving backwards and this is because for some reason this is the best showcase of the problem when we were recording. Usually it happens when I go forward but it seems that the problem is not related to the direction you're going.

I had a similar issue. Dealer initially thought it was the strut mount but the culprit was the steering rack. They used used a stethoscope to verify. Replaced steering rack and glad I have warranty because it's over $6k job. Could be caliper related but I'm not sure it would matter turnisince it's fixed in it'd location.

I assume you have checked the tires for a nail head?

I had this and it ended up being grease/oil on the faces of the wheel spacers, wheel and brake hat. Cleaned them up and the noise is gone. Easy enough to check even if you don’t have spacers.

After checking the type of my brake discs I think that this is going to be the problem. I'm surely going to do the easy check suggested above but if it's not that I am strongly confident that this is going to be the actual source of the issue. We are currently celebrating Easter here so nobody's working but I'm going to go to the shop these days and look at the issue with my mechanic

Can you post a video? I had a similar problem that ended with the dealer replacing the cv shaft. There is a TSB to install some shims for a similar sound but it rarely solves the issue.

I will try to post a video that I made later today so you can compare.

Here is a copy of the SIB mentioned above.
Its a well known issue. I had mine covered while under the factory warranty.
Even out of warranty it should not be an expensive fix. When I signed the invoice for my BMW dealer to get reimbursement, the total was around $250 or so.

I checked that and it doesn't seem to be the issue. I think that the the most appropriate fix here would be adding the friction disk because my break disks are the lightweight ones

The more I check the more I am convinced that this is the actual issue- I have already made moves to add the friction disks

Udachi, let us know how it goes.
The friction rings are only $50 each and it is just a matter of removing wheels, loosening the brake caliper so you can remove the brake disc to install the friction ring, then reverse the process. Just make sure to clean the mating surfaces of the wheel bearing hub and brake disc before installing the friction disc.
The whole procedure for both sides is less than an hour of labor.

Hi there thank you for the assistance however I've tried to buy these friction rings but unfortunately that didn't help. We added them today and I still have the same issue. It seems it's going to be a problem with the differential so I'm going to get it checked out as soon as possible.
