I tried the i5 M60 yesterday at the dealer. Man, that car is comfortable! Fully loaded in all black so it does look a lot better than most new 5 out there. Sadly, BMW decided not to put the right engine in that car. I probably am one of the rare one here very excited to see the launch of the new M5. Give me 45-50 miles EV range and a nice engine with good exhaust note. It could potentially the M5 that most M550i owners are waiting for.

It’s definitely comfortable. Just not very sporty other than being fast.

Why so much piano black on the outside. It's like they haven't learned with putting it on the inside and how easily it scratches and gets dirty, they said "fuck it lets put it on the outside too, more money to be made from having them replaced more often" I just don't get it.

G60 pros- big and comfortable, good for long drives; the M sport package makes this car much better than a dull non-sport G60 cons - overall size and weight. The B58 is a great engine but the car is too damn heavy to feel nearly as sporty as a G30. It just doesn’t accelerate with as much urgency. Too many touch screens Now about that M550i. It had 65k miles and not a lot of options so I wasn’t going to buy, but the real purpose was compare the drive to my 540i. It didn’t disappoint. The engine is always ready, less or no turbo lag, and the xdrive helps the tires hook up even where my RWD with better tires will dip into traction control. The experience was very similar to when I first drove the E9x M3 in 2010 before ordering one…lots of smiles when applying throttle. This could be my next car if I could find the right one. Until then my G30 is awesome. Edit to add… also the SA told me both the i5’s and 530i’s are not selling well nationally. Not really a problem selling 540iX. Most people are not ready for an electric vehicle and those who want them have bought already. They like the gas engine but want the I6.

i also detested the buck teeth on the G8x but having seen one in person it doesn't look terrible, and the whatever grey shade it was in looked stunning (i was ashamed to admit at the time) anyway the proof will lie in how many they sell i guess |

When I drove it, it was the i5 M60. So I am going to assume they can’t make it sportier than that. And I felt it lacked soul and was just too big. It’s all comfort. Which is fine if that’s what you want. I’m just not interested. With its size and height, I’d just assume get a X5 M50/60 or a X3 M or M40/50. If you don’t require a V8, the X3 M might be a good replacement. I’m not surprised the 530 isn’t selling well. That car has gotten way too big for that engine. I thought the G30 530 was already pretty underpowered. The G60 probably emphasizes that even more. So… you drove the M550. You’re toast. Might as well start your search! I had my 540 and liked it a lot. I wondered if the M550 would be too much the same, just faster. Wrong. When I drove one, I just confirmed I definitely wanted one and it was worth the trade. Over a year later, I’m still glad and it was worth it. I wonder if this is what will happen when I get to drive an F90. Part of me thinks I should avoid doing so… but we all know I’ll do no such thing. But I am not done with the M550. I’ll let the F90’s depreciate another year or more while I get more enjoyment from the M550. Good luck with your M550 search!

the suspension was not terrible, in fact it was almost as comfortable as my 550 but i felt the road imperfections but it wasn't harsh. the tires were twice as wide as the 550 so that could be why. if the LCI Comp has better dampers I don't know, it will be as comfortable as the 550? gosh! note my 550 has DHP. the car is a wild animal. it spins the rear wheels on dry tarmac in comfort mode. well actually there is no comfort mode, only wild wilder and wildest (honestly, comfort, sport, sport plus individual settings -not modes- felt very similar to me). the transmission was lumpy, it was jerky at all shifts so i'm not sure that the car was babied lol. the steering is quicker than the 550, coz it has a bigger (?smaller) ratio. the 2018 seat was not comfortable at all. maybe the LCI has improved comfort. similarities to 550? lag. when you press the throttle, it takes a second for the car to move if it needs to change gears. is that a bad thing, well i don't know. i'm very impatient. that's why i have an EV with 600hp. the EV is instant lol. i'd say the 550 is 93-95% the base M5. not sure about the comp. but you want a LCI Comp. G30 is such a great car. Love the line up of trims as well...there's something for everyone (except the full EV folks I guess). I like the rear of the LCI but the front of the pre-LCI. I kinda feel like BMW just came up with some temporary design for the front of the LCI because the lighting doesn't match any of the other series/models/trims. Those L DRLs looks Jaguarish. Nevertheless, it is still very good looking.
Anyway, I saw an i5 M60 in person the other day and got to sit in it. It's actually very nice looking in person, it definitely has that 5 series presence which you don't see in pictures. I wouldn't mind upgrading to that chassis in a few years. Interior is very nice too. Seats were very comfortable but their new stitching patterns don't look as "cool" or luxurious as the cross/diamond stitching of the nappa in the g30. Been debating this idea of a full EV too, considering I pay nearly $100 a week for gas 😭. We'll see, Ive always been a gas or nothing type of car owner. Also need to pay attention to BMW's EV reliability and any potential issues that would be a turn off in them. Need to drive one at some point too. Wish there was a M560i/M550 or something along those lines. |

the Taycan in the UK depreciates 65% the moment you sign the dotted line. other than that it's just like a Porsche inside. (mate has one) if my 550 dies I'm getting a G8x Comp. (want a 911 Turbo S but can't afford one lol) Last edited by G30M; 05-10-2024 at 02:25 PM.. |

Interesting. I read something a while back that said they were very reliable, for the most part.
