From my personal experience, Audi is pretty good with recalls and warranty services. Mercedes sucks! It's almost like asking for a big favor every time I go there. One time, they told me straight in the face that they fixed my car on their own time without getting paid by MBUSA while my car was still under warranty. I went out of my way and made sure they understand that I paid for the car and didn't need a favor. The local BMW dealer, somehow, likes to freak me out every time I come in. The brand new X5 got check engine light with less than 2k miles and they told me they will run tests but if it's not something under warranty, diagnostic fee will be charged. Just last week, the M550i has problem with Nav and XM. I was told the bill won't be cheap and it will be even more expensive if the car has to stay overnight it feels like they either don't want to do the work or many ppl have brought their cars in expecting to be fixed for free.
I really want an X5 50e, but if they turn me down, I will be done with BMW, this just doesn’t feel right. It feels disrespectful

I wonder how much it would be to swap out the battery, outside of warranty.

as a side note, fingers crossed that one day we'll have OEM batteries!

Probably more than the car's worth.

answering my own question, on this forum of all places: https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...74&postcount=1
The BMW PHEV battery is a modular battery system and so the cost of one battery module is £ 1,337 and depending on which BMW PHEV you drive, they have 5-6 modules in one battery pack. So, you are looking at a total replacement cost of between £ 6,686 to £ 8,023 if you need a complete battery change. Labour costs at any BMW authorized service center is £ 210 for one module change and for the 3-Series and 5-Series it is just £ 238

This makes Tesla battery looking really cheap as a whole actually. As a reference, the new x5 50e battery capacity is around 25kw, meanwhile, model S has 100kw battery.

Update, after keeping the car in the shop for 2 1/2 weeks, they finally confirmed the battery has a couple of failing nodes and BMW authorized replacement. But, the battery is not in stock anywhere in the USA nor Germany. So they said they may keep the car for a couple of months. I think I know what happens, in 2019 or 2020 they put larger batteries in 530e, and those larger capacity batteries run on higher voltage, so they can’t just put it into my car without completely redoing the electrical system. And my specific battery probably doesn’t exist in the nature, since there were probably very few of those cars sold at that time.
I am ok with the loaner they gave me, so I guess I will have to wait. But the most important thing is that I can stay with BMW and buy another vehicle from them, This was an ultimate test for me.

That’s the part the scares me about the electrified cars. What a shame it would be if such an advanced car becomes worthless after 6-8 years and under 100k miles.

Update: The dealer called me couple of days ago and informed me they got all the parts and should be done soon. They are NOT replacing entire battery pack, just two failed batteries. After the installation they will test and see if the problem disappeared. I am curious what the battery capacity will be after the fix. I have a suspicion it will not be same as new, probably just above the threshold of warranty replacement.
Will update as new info becomes available.

They’ve replaced 2 out of 6 batteries and claim the resulting capacity is up to 87%. They are not trying too hard as far as I am concerned.
