M550i Rear Seat Heating Retrofit

Hey all,

I was curious if there's any info on if G30 M550s come with pre-wired rear seats + come with all the heating elements by default? I bought an M550i recently that has almost everything I've been looking for...minus rear heated seats! So just curious on the prospects of retrofitting that feature.

Thanks!

I HIGHLY doubt it comes with the heating elements if the car wasn’t optioned. That would be way too easy. Better chance the wiring is there because they aren’t going to make different harnessses for every car configuration. It’s most likely tied up in the loom heading into the trunk.

I would think this retrofit is more do-able than most. The rear seats are easy to pop out and get into to install the heat mat. Then it’s just getting the switch and coding. Wish I had some links or more information for you, it’s just not that common of a retrofit.

Yeah that seems like the most likely scenario; couldn't quite find diagrams that'd lay out what's currently built into the seats.

There's a few upholstery shops in the area that have worked on adding heated seats but not sure if they've really worked on BMWs. Appreciate the insight in any case, I figured it'd be a lot more work involved but it does seem more or less straightforward!
