Massachusetts is similar. Here you need either a "Liquor License" or a "Beer and Wine" license to to sell either. So you pretty much have what we call package stores aka liquor stores where all they sell is booze and lottery. These are privately owned but the owner pays big bucks for the license and they are limited per town. Then there are beer and wine licenses and this is usually the corner store that can sell beer and win in addition to milk and eggs. These are far and few between. Plenty of Liquor stores that also sell beer and wine.

My Costco sells everything, but they were awarded a license to do so. Groceries stores, maybe 1 in a 50. My Wegmans has a liquor section, but it's almost separate from the rest of the store.

In NH, the state controls all liquor and wine sales via NH State Liquor stores, but beer can be bought anywhere, even the gas station.

In Maine, you can buy anything anywhere. You can buy Vodka at CVS or Wallgreens. Coming from Mass, Maine is so refreshing.

Also liquor stores used to be closed on Sunday but now they are 7 days/week.

Haha, I was actually joking/being a wise as about strip joints. Not so much the alcohol thing and strip clubs, but more because since it seems like MD is a dry state for personal alcohol purchases, then how do they feel about strip joints or pot shops. You know, all those other sins.

Kirkland makes good cheap generic alternatives to the real deal, most likely the same stuff rebranded.

I took out my first Costco membership a few months ago (or any big supply store for the matter) and I just can't get into it. I do think if I were buying a TV or a Mac I would check it out, but the most value for me so far with Costco is their travel website and prices. Outstanding prices and super easy to navigate and book. No bells and whistles.

In terms of going to the physical store. Too stressful trying to find my "ideal" parking spot with a million people there on a Saturday and a million carriages splattered throughout the lot.

It amazes me how many people get in line for gas there. I estimated that the savings would have been $7 for a fill up. That ain't worth 30 minutes of my life waiting in a gas line for shitty gas.

Maybe I should pick up a bottle of Kirkland Tequila and drink it while in line then maybe I could chill!

Costco is my go to store for tires, gas (it is top tier rated -- look it up), meat, seafood, fruits and veggies, TP, paper towels, vitamins/supplements, snacks, cheeses, milk, butter, and, like you, travel. Pharmacy is also a good deal. We use the costco vodka to make fake "stoli doli" (pineapple infused vodka that the Capital Grill sells as a cocktail). Supposedly the top end Costco vodka is Grey Goose. Their other spirits are supposedly plain label duplicates of other famous makers.

I have found that Thursday nights are slower than any other time at our costco. I encourage folks to try after 7pm at their local costco to find the slow times. Weekends are hell. Never. Ever. Right now it's busy at all hours so there's never a great time, though I waited for 3 minutes for gas this morning at 945am. If I'd have gone at 10:45am it's a 20 minute wait. Like anything else, you have to employ some strategery.

Usually a change in platforms is all about money. I’m sure this one is cheaper from a licensing standpoint. They sure didn’t develop this app in house.

I didn’t realize the gas was top rated. I assumed the price indicated that it was lower tier. I’ll keep that in mind. In terms of tires, that’s a hard no for me. I only trust the dealer stripping and mounting tires on my rims. I also want the latest road force balancing technology. I’d rather pay a few bucks more to have a BMW only trained tech swap my rubber vs. a probable kid learning on my easily scratchable rims.

I had two Michelin Super Sports mounted at the dealer last week and although insurance paid for them, the price was on the work order. Same as Tire Rack. They did charge labor though to put them on. Maybe because insurance was paying. Finally, I don’t think you can get BMW star marked tires at Costco.

I agree on the meats, etc. Unfortunately, I don’t cook for 20 people. I wish you could buy everything there in less quantity.
