PPI came back pretty damn clean.

rear rotors need replaced. rear flex disc starting to wear but replacement isn’t imminent.

codes for the emergency call failure and the active grill shutter were on, even though the grill shutters were working properly.

all of that helped me get them to knock $1500 off the car, so i’m in it for 20,500 less my 6,500 trade in. i’m pretty happy with the condition for 14K

Nice. As mentioned earlier, cracking engine in this car. Very smooth, efficient and powerful.
Last of what you might consider to be traditional BMWs compared to the current crop.

Enjoy one of BMWs best

Nice - are the rear rotors worn past the limits but the pads have meat? Just curious if a brake job was done where they just swapped the pads and kept the rotors. BMW doesn't usually do this, but an indy shop would.

Flex Disk is common for these cars. It is a two hour job, the disk is $200-$300, but the dealer will charge 4 hours labor. May want an indy to do that when ready.

The active grills are warrantied for 15 years or 150k miles. BMW extended it, so if they give you trouble going forward, you are 100% covered at the dealer for these.

Sounds like you are going to be a G30 guy. Congrats.

nailed it on the brake job. someone slapped new pads on worn rotors. the driver side rear is slightly warped.

the shop that did the PPI for me was great and said he’d handle the flex disc way cheaper than the dealership if i buy the car.

great to know about the grills! i was gonna have them done when i pulled the bumper for repaint but i guess ill let bmw handle it.

thanks man!

service advisor at my local dealership confirmed that the extended warranty covers the grills on my car.

he recommended waiting until i have a CEL come on for them though. first step is to do a scan test and try to clear the code. if that solves the problem, the test and code isn’t covered by the warranty and would run me about $350

Or you could easily clear the code yourself with a ODB adapter and scan tool of your choice. Cost you around $50 bucks and will allow you to read codes going forward.

If you don’t have a CEL on, I’d just leave it be. When it goes or fails or faults, the CEL will come on (again).

yup. that’s what i was saying…i’ll clear it myself (not paying them $350 for that) and leave it alone until there’s an issue.

thank you for pointing out the extended warranty though. it’s good to know i’m covered down the road.

Sounds like you made up your mind and it’s a solid car for the mileage. I’ve owned a 2018 540 and 2020 M550. But both way lower miles. Currently have 38k on my M550.

These cars are awesome. We have an entire thread dedicated to how difficult it is to find something sufficient to trade into. And it’s not exaggeration.

I’d have probably shopped for something with lower miles but you’re getting it pretty inexpensive. If you get 40-50k miles out of with minimal issue, that’s pretty good for $14k.

FWIW there are many of us daily driving M550’s with minimal issues. The only recurring theme is the coolant expansion tank. On a higher mileage car you may find it’s already been done.

Joe mentioned Route 66 - they have a great warranty for the M550 and I’m sure 540. But not sure they’ll cover a car that’s already over 100k.

You’ve definitely done your homework and seems like you are plenty capable of making the call yourself. I didn’t click the link but someone mentioned the blue interior. Love that combo of white with blue Dakota! I had the Dakota in my 540. It’s a great material. And on the 2017-2020 you could have multi contour seats with Dakota, didn’t have to get Nappa. That’s what I had. Nappa is nice too. In a vacuum, I would take either. But better optioned cars just usually have Nappa, especially 2021+ (LCI).

thanks man. it’s carbon black metallic with the blue interior. definitely a sharp combo. and i love the options in it.

if i was looking for a car, i definitely would’ve shopped around. i kind of stumbled on to this one though. the combination of it looking great and them getting me out of the guaranteed money pit that my 650i was gonna be made the decision easy.

my goal is to have some fun with it for the next 3-4 years until i move on to something else. i’ll keep it super clean and well maintained and probably get my money back out of it when im ready to move on

Sounds like a win! And if gives you problems sooner, you can just do the same thing again and probably not lose much. It’s already done a lot of its depreciating.

You are the perfect candidate for a high mileage car purchase. The depreciation has slowed or bottomed up, your low mileage driving stops the bleeding and you keep it well cared for. Definitely wouldn’t surprise me in three years if you get all your money back.
