Modern Spare G30 solution?

Does anyone have this ? Or experience with it ?

Considering getting this setup for my M550 now that i've switched over to non run flats. Seems a good price for this. And does not take up much trunk room at all with the full package, including Jack.

https://modernspare.com/product/2017...e-kit-options/

$469 for the compete setup seems reasonable to me.

I do and I think there are lots on this board that do. I used a rachet strap to hold it in place in the back park of the trunk, it does take up some room but not too much, I still load it up with everything we need for weekend baseball tournaments.

If I thought I could get one of these and still have room for a family road trip, I'd do it in a heart beat. Thanks for reminding me of this option. I need to keep that in mind. For now, I've got a new set of run flats that was put on when they CPO'd it in December.

I may end up getting a roof box when we have kid number two, anyway. In which case, I really think it would be doable.

I recently bought this of someone here and I gotta said that it's absolutely must have for me specially if you got bad road and have 20'. You won't know till you need it. Had 2 complete blown out tire. I figured it was enough of waiting for tow.

Don't forget the spacer. You need it to clear the brakes.

Thanks Joe ! I did see that when I was looking, but appreciate the heads up.

Just ordered the whole kit, with bag + spacer. I also measured the new PS4S from top to bottom. Its exactly 26.5 inches. Same as this spare. Psyched to get this, should be here next week.

However, you could use this as an excuse to get some spacers all around and have that nice flush look? That said, I have no idea how wide the spacer needs to be to clear the brakes. That spacer in the stock photo looks pretty fat, but worth researching. Some nice 12mm/17mm spacers would do your car good, especially if they could double as the spare spacer.

I actually thought the same thing, but then figured it has to be a fatty because the "donut spare" is about 1/3 the width of our 668s.

I will send you a pic once I get it installed. Sometime next week. Grab a tape and measure 27" x 27" in the trunk. That's the space it will take up, 26.5 for wheel n tire and probably 1/2" for the bag.

Yes, would love to see a pic/hear your review of how much space is left.

Hah funny you suggest that… I was bored and impulsive last night and made a quick model out of cardboard. Circle with 27" diameter and 6" tall. I have issues, man.

LOL ! Like minded. I actually thought of it, but did not have anything big enough to make a template. I did do a quick measure in the right upper corner and figure this will not interfere with anything I need to pack in the trunk. And basically, that is NOTHING but groceries and the occasional suitcases and beach gear. This spare, especially with its low profile and light weight is peace of mind above anything else.

I have an SUV and utility trailer to handle anything beyond a little lost trunk space.

You should buy 2, so you can put both skinnies of front...drag racer. Obviously joking...That's awesome that the rolling diameter is the same. No differential issues.

My wife has an SUV but I actually like the 540 better on a road trip. Really, that's part of why I bought it and why I made the driving assistant pro a must have. The wife's Lexus is nice but they make you pay out the ass to have that kind of tech. It's actually a little underwhelming what you get for the money at the mid range (still a $65k vehicle all said and done). It also burns more gas than my Tahoe did! But that's what she wanted and that's what she got. They're great off road… which she will never ever find out.

I've got time on the existing tires. Like I said, if I end up with a roof box when kid #2 arrives, I think that will open plenty of room for one of these kits. Or maybe my wife gets tired of this tank and I can finally get her in a Volvo XC90 or X5 and I get my tires with no roof box needed…

Does the Modern Spare fit well on the center hub...? How are the tolerances look like on the hub when you mount the spare wheel on it when you compare with your original mag wheel ? Do you feel it is the same tightness fit before you tight the wheel lugs. I read somewhere that a sleeve might be needed to compensate the free play of the Modern Spare ...can anyone confirm ?... thanks a lot.
Just wondering if the same size or dimensions are used by Modern Spare when compared to a BMW wheel.

I end up going with the OEM Spare which is the same size as the Modern Spare. Although I've been told that it will fit M550i without a spacer.
here is a close up photo in the trunk.

I might get the two Trunk storage pieces to have it under the mat.

I actually took a look at mine this morning. If mine was not optioned and I was going this route, I definitely would get the under mat storage pieces. They did a nice job with it. I don't think my spare has ever come out, looks brand new.

They do look good. Just unreasonably expensive in my opinion. $700 CAD for two pieces of styrofoams after spending over $900CAD for what you see there.
I'll keep looking for it cheaper off eBay or something.

It was around $700 usd shipped last I checked. That's why I did the OEM.
Other than modern sport having a bag, both are seating on top of the floor.

I'll keep looking for it cheaper off eBay or something.
What does the kit run?
It was around $700 usd shipped last I checked. That's why I did the OEM.
Other than modern sport having a bag, both are seating on top of the floor.
Ouch. Yeah you can get a nice ///M bag for cheap. Keep at it on eBay. You may get lucky and find someone. A really good opportunity for a Chinese fabricator or a 3D printer on Etsy. Hmmm…..maybe I'll measure mine and get something going. There are a lot of people who ditched runflats who would jump on this.
