Or stuck on the side of the road in some desolate area with a blown out tire/bent wheel with no brakes.

Hi All, Living in NYC. I learned my lesson years ago when I ordered a 335i xdrive a few years back with staggered performance wheels. Looked great and awesome when the road was dry. But the pot holes killed the rims, tires and once damaged the front end. Ever since then I kept the standard wheels and tires that come with the car. Last thing I need is rim and tire issue with my family or they get stuck without my help on the side of the road. Just not worth the headache. Especially living in the Northeast. This is what we did with the X6 and the m340i. Kept the standard tires that came with each vehicle. Just my 2 cents.

Sounds like you’ve hit a lot of issues though. I’d cut my losses and swap out. Life’s too short to be suffering through any kind of abuse.
Hi OP, I went the same route as above, saved my 19inch M sport rims for weekends or shows and bought a stock 18 inch wheels with thicker sidewalls for a softer ride. Beats replacing tires/rims all the time. I am in the Northern Virginia area so not as bad as New Jersey but I understand your pain and frustration.

With regards to the Idrive system, it may need a reset or software update from the dealership?

You can probably unload your bmw for a decent price and get another one if so inclined. There are very few cars out there like the 550i.

Off topic but I have a question on the M340i - Did you purposely leave off the adaptive M suspension, or was that just a matter of circumstance and availability? If you intentionally left that option out, can I ask why? No reason to ask other than I am just enjoying learning all I can about the different models and their options.

It's a trade-off, sexy looking wheels vs. reliability. At the end of the day, I roll the dice for aggressive looking wheels, back it up with wheel and tire insurance, and finally, never use run flats. Run flats are a bigger issue than the diameter of the wheel or the low profile rubber. Run flats produce bent wheels and side wall bubbles.

Using 245/45/18 for summer and 225/55/17 for winter, never had a puncture(knock on wood) and it is the softest car I've ever driven.

Hi there. I was dumb. I forgot to add the M suspension, by the time I realized. The car was in the build process. I could have really pushed my sales guy for it but didn’t. I was just more happy to get the color combination. To be honest I am ok without. I’ve have it on the x6 and it is great. Especially for body roll control.

I totally agree with you. I went with the regular wheels. The money I could have used for the wheel and tire packaged and insurance for that I put towards a luxury vacation to Southern California which included 4 days on Catalina Island. Lol. Been there done that with the wholes sexy wheels package. I have gotten older. Lol. So far pretty lucky with the potholes and no bubbles with the tires. It has been a year now since I have the car. How ever I have had other issues with it. They are all posted here. Including picking it up today for a damage sensor.

Got it. Thanks. In a different stage in life I think I'd be inclined to try a M340. The sporty size and the performance for the price is awesome. At my stage in the game the 5 is about as small as I can get. Probably as small as I want to be at any stage, for a daily driver, honestly. But the 340 is a very attractive vehicle, both looks and concept.
