The e28 is what got me into BMWs. My parents had an '82 528e, and that's the car in which they drove me home from the hospital in '87 - they had it until '95 when the timing chain went. It was what my mom drove - a 5 speed manual. I didn't know at the time how much I loved that car, but I was hopelessly in love with all things BMW through the early-mid 2000s.

I'm not personally a huge fan of their newer models, but I always wanted either an e28 or an e39. Was able to pick up an e39 a year and a half ago with only 37k miles on it. When it arrived on the truck, I had my mom drive it and she mentioned how much it reminded her of the 528e. From the e28 to the e34 to the e39 it was as if the same group of people worked on it and just perfected it with each generation.

My mom was diagnosed with cancer the month after the e39 arrived and then passed away the following month, but I plan on keeping the e39 forever and it gives me joy that she was able to drive it before she had to stop driving. And my ultimate dream is to locate the 528e (if it still exists) and give it a full restoration.

My Dad had an E23, which is the first BMW I remember seeing. He drove them from the time I was young, foraged into a very bad Mercedes experience once and never went back. His last one was an E39 540i (still have the service book, lost the car) which I would have loved to have now he passed away. Luckily I still own the rights to the personalized number plate so when I get that F10 M5 that's the first thing I'll get. Don't ever sell that E39; and I'm sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing.

For me the E28 was a fantastic car for its time. Great driving experience, absolutely solid at speed, compared to most of what we had in the UK of the period.

I remember going to the launch evening with a colleague, who had one (528i) waiting for the road the next week. I was as excited as he was, waiting for a chance to try it out.

My Dad had an 87 535i, Grey on Bergundy.

Car was awesome in every sense of the word.

Had the sunroof and the car phone.

I had 3 e39's and i am mad at my self for selling the 3rd one. I wish i didnt, it was the last year 03 530i with m5 bumpers (front and rear). And it had 03 540i rims. It was beautiful.

This disappointed me. They featured 2 cars. The two most efficient, and didn't even mention the M or the 535i. I thought BMW was supposed to be an enthusiast car.

The pre-90s BMWs were such cute looking cars. They became more sleek and macho once the 90s came.
