M Performance Exhaust sounds (videos)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I found a few videos of the F90 M5 with the M Performance Exhaust, but does anyone know what it sounds like without it? Seems all the launch vehicles had it (black exhaust tips), and wondering if it's really worth the extra $.

Example of M Performance Exhaust:

Think you would have to hear them back to back in person.

The question is what exactly did they do to get the noise.

i would say skip the $1500 option and save for the M performance for when it releases or go aftermarket with akrapovic etc.

That's the M Performance Exhaust not the Sport Exhaust and yes I think it sounds amazing. Gonna be a pricey option though

Cant imagine spending the money on an M5 and not getting that exhaust. Wish the M550i sounded like that!

I wonder if this is even going to be an option at launch. It didn't appear on the few price sheets floating around as a separate option without the first edition package.

the review cars with black exhaust tips are the "sport exhaust" the option for $1500 CAD if you live in Canada.

the only car fitted with M performance so far is the safety car in all the videos.

i will get "sport exhaust" as its the only option offered so far.

The video with Shmeee and the Safety Car doesn't sound like the car in the video above. The car in the video above has way more cracks and pops then the video of the safety car. BMW needs to limit all these Exhaust options a lot of confusion what's sport Exhaust and Perf Exhaust. Either way I like the Exhaust in the above video whatever it is haha

Reading the comments in that Youtube video above (Canadian Auto Review), seems like the mic was placed next to the exhaust for a more "authentic" noise that doesn't showcase the piped-in speaker noise. Probably why it sounds louder.

The m performance exhaust is akropovic. They outsourced it to them from the previous performance exhaust for the f10.

Sooooooo if I go get Chipotle before I drive it...and don't pay for the performance exhaust....

If my math checks out I only pay approx. $11 for the same sounds as opposed to whatever BMW will charge for their exhaust. Though over a 3 year lease (if you lease) and having to have at least 1 meal a day. 365x11x3= $12,045 and god-knows how much weight gain from a burrito a day. vs. the weight loss of the perf. exhaust and a price tag of at most, $3k....

looks like I'll place an order for that exhaust please

Allow me to use a non M car analogy (*gasp*) to clear up the confusion:

Standard exhaust | Standard BMW -->Base
M Sport Exhaust | M Sport BMW -->Minor upgrades over base (mainly cosmetic)
M Performance Exhaust | M Performance BMW--> Noticeable performance upgrades over base/M Sport

I know there's been a lot of debate about this, but Akropovic and BMW have worked very closely together developing exhaust systems for race cars, street cars, and motorcycles for several years now. I believe their partnership goes back to at least 2011. So chances are even though Akropovic doesn't manufacturer it, the MPE system is almost definitely an Akropovic exhaust made to BMW's spec. That's why they're always on the safety cars during development.

I'm not a fan of the farting/blatting on upshifts on most of the new M motors... but the crackles and burbles do sound nice when you want to be juvenile.
