Adaptive drive is Vdc on steroids , that's my understanding and separate from driver profiles , one of which is called adaptive.
So adaptive drive is always on so that's the suspension system that keeps the car level around corners in simple terms.
Driver profiles is configuring steering engine and if you have either vdc or adaptive drive , the suspension.
Choosing adaptive means the car adapts on the go rather than choosing any predefined settings like eco pro or sport.
That's my understanding but happy to be corrected.
