Nothing wrong with doing it the easy way. There are a LOT of people who think they're gonna be Jeremiah Johnson out there, they'll bring three different fire starters but not one of them is a basic bic lighter and guess what, they stay just as cold as the rest of them. Starting a fire the hard way takes time and energy (and usually two working hands) which you may not have in a survival situation. Try to start one in the snow with a firesteel and tell me whats up!
