The 'body style' (i.e. whole new generation; e.g. E39, E60, F10, G30) seems to last for a total of apx. 7 yrs, with a facelift (i.e. LCI) around halfway at apx 3.5 yrs.

But who knows what the future holds...
This is precisely why I decided to go with my 2019 M550ix at the last minute even though I had already ordered a 2019 X6 to replace my 2017 that was totaled last month. I didn't want to be in the last year of the lifecycle with the X6 F16. The 2020 X6 model should follow the 2019 X5.
