Do you say the same of the car's interior lightning? Is that tacky too? Why don't you just strip it all out and put an E27 lightbulb in it, just below the mirror? Non LED of course, make it 100W.

Different strokes for different folks. I am not a fan of the illuminated star (MB) nor the illuminated grill (BMW) but that is why there are so many different variables out there.
