I'm questioning the precision possible, compared to ensuring a tight hub-centric mount. Positioning pins will require a very tight tolerance to the holes in the rim, or there is no gain.
The hole clearance for lug bolts is not a critical dimension, which requires a tight tolerance in manufacture, as the lug bolts clamp on the taper. Will hole size be reliable across rim production? Hub tolerance is the critical dimension for accurate mounting.
More important to me, I'd like to know what the rim to hub spigot clearance is in production examples, confirming (or not), the nominal 0.1mm (0.004") figure we see in hub/rim data.
