Cost price to BMW was £11k in parts plus labour. For me to foot the bill it would have been somewhere in the £17-18k range.
In reality they didn’t have a leg to stand on, Sandal accepted straight away that the issue was caused by the EGR fault as covered by the recall on that engine. The fact my chassis number wasn’t covered under the recall just gave them a window to declare it “goodwill” which meant they didn’t have to warranty the work.
