I did a similar mode on my N54. It took ages to heat up and in winter wouldn't hit what I felt was operational temperature (90c), however it was great in summer as the N54 had no oil cooler and it would mean the oil wouldn't get as hot as quickly when pushing the car hard.
I've not really looked at the oil temps on my M550i but I think it has better cooling overall.
