Back in 2022, a month after finding a perfectly spec'd X3 (this was still when they were removing options due to Covid parts availability) some one hit me. The car spent 3 months at a BMW collision center. Longest lead time part was the headlight and when it finally arrived it was the wrong side. BMW covered 1 month of my lease payment.

They do wait until the vehicle is returned to you to make any compensation (this way if timeline gets extended they only have to do the compensation once), but do it's recommended to open the case with them when the car is in for service.

Also had a recent issue that I brought my X3M in for service on. The dealer couldn't replicate but indicated because it was a safety issue they didn't want to release the car to me until someone from BMW NA could come and look at it (with no estimate of how long that would take). I did call BMW NA to ask if they had any indication of timing and the customer service rep mentioned compensation if the car was in the shop for an extended period of time. It only wound up being a few days so I didn't pursue anything further, but was nice they offered.
