One of my now-dead racing buddies was "on the job" with a gold shield from NY state, and was driving west on I-70 between KC and Topeka. The posted speed limit was 75 MPH by then, and he was probably 10-15 over. A trooper pulled him over, despite his Fraternal Order of Police "get out of jail free" custom group NY license plates.
My buddy flashed his gold-plated tin at the trooper, who told him to put it away and get his license, registration, and insurance card out. He was floored when the trooper returned his documents a few minutes later...along with a speeding ticket for the actual speed that he was doing. He reminded the trooper that he was also a cop, and the trooper told him that he wasn't going to cut him one inch of slack because someone who is "on the job" should know better than to speed!
I have no idea who that Kansas trooper was, but he is my hero for doing the right thing.....
