I dont know about 3M but I have Venture Shield custom kit on my hood and it does wrap over the edges. Im not sure if the pre-cut kit actually wrap over.
Anyway, my mirrors are not covered on the bottom too.
Maybe some people with 3M can tell you more about theirs.
