i doubt the majority of those who vote in the polls are professional photographers--i know i sure as shit am not. with that said, i think most votes go to the appealing image overall, rather than what is the most technically 'correct' or best composed. for example, i would judge a cooking contest based off what tastes the best, not necessarily which is the best executed meal from a technical standpoint.
