Are you in sport mode by any chance ? Reason for asking is that the throttle response is obviously more sensitive so half throttle probably equates to something like full throttle in comfort mode or there abouts.

Not got a 550i my self but assume there is a lot of torque with this engine and I guess it's just enough to overwhelm the tyres.
My previous car a f10 530d rwd could quite easily spin the rear wheels if I was heavy with the gas peddle off the mark, that had just under 400lbft or torque so imagine the 550i is similar torque wise.

As others have said drive seems to mitigate this but that's obviously not a fix for you.
Can only suggest less throttle initially until speed builds before applying more gas.
