Goin' the other way
I did ED on a 545/6sp last year and will definitely be going "downmarket" (said tongue in cheek) to the 330i or (hopefully) the 335i twin turbo or the M3 (if available by then) when my lease is up in the spring of '07.
While the 545 is an amazing vehicle with tons of power and torque; it's just a bit too much of an executive cruiser for me. I don't fee "old" enough to be driving it.
The 3er is just more of a driver's car; and since it's grown a bit bigger (almost E39 5er sized now), it fits me like a glove. I'm not giving too much back in terms of trunk space over the 545, and the cockpit ergonomics are better in the 3 than in the 5.
That, plus the fact that I like the aesthetics of the new 3 better than the 5 (and I think the 545 is a very handsome automobile) makes my decision pretty easy.
