Consumer Union recommends not buying a new car in the first year of production. No matter who the car manufacturer is.
My 2018 530e MSport is 23 months old. Other than the compartment under the light switch failing (I don't think of it as a coin compartment as it s too weirdly shaped for that) my car has been solid. But mine was manufactured in November of 2017 so it is a second year car.
