Another stolen idea from Jalopnik, but I thought this could be a fun discussion.
So, what is your personal least favorite automotive redesign and or refresh? and why?
Here's a few of mine.
Third Generation Ford Taurus
The first and second gen were incredibly popular, the best selling car in America, and they weren't too bad looking either (especially in SHO spec), then came the dreaded third generation. Ford overdid themselves with all the curves and circular theme, car looked like it was melting in the sun, and its radical design eventually caused its downfall too, slipping to the #3 spot in US sales. They tried to correct their wrongs with the 4th generation, but it was too late, the Taurus had lost its spot at the top.
Sixth Generation Hyundai Elantra Facelift
The sixth generation Elantra when it first came out was a really nicely designed compact sedan, especially for the price. Simple and sharp, it actually looked more upscale than its price presented itself. The facelift however, is a disaster of design. One looks like a nice car, the other a Pokémon. Every time I see a facelifted Elantra I can't help but think how changing one aspect of a car completely ruined its design for me.
6th Generation BMW M3 and 2nd Generation BMW 4-Series/M4
Of course this was an obvious choice so, in order for everyone else to not post it I thought I would include it. You all know why, one is classic BMW, the other is a mishmash of tasteless trends and other brand's design cues.
