#20 is actually not stupid.
The older iPods when connected to older Chevy vehicles using the cigarette charger would mess with the voltage and shutdown the AC and do all sorts of weird stuff. I think by the 2nd or 3rd generation the problem was solved, but I remember a friend with a Silvarado who couldn't turn on his headlights or AC while the ipod was plugged in.
