But is diesel the best ICE for such intermittent use. I used to think diesel would be the best engine, have changed my mind, seeing how diesel's get messed up with lots of cold starts, short journey and winter use. DPF regenerations messed up, carbon and gunk build up, not a good recipe for longevity. I even have concerns for petrol ICE use, where they are used so intermittently in the PHEV applications.
Diesel is most suited for long journeys, where we get plenty of heat soak and steady speed driving.
