I had SiriusXM coded by an independent coder to activate the option - he got FSC code from BMW. The hardware is there. Then called Sirius with the radio ID number (can get to it through the menus) and they will give you 1 year "all access" free trial - told them it was a new BMW (technically it is). They asked why dealership didn't activate the trial and just said I didn't know. Price was right.

Coding was done online and took 20 mins. Its working great...yes I know the sound quality isn't the same as CD's, but have had it for years, and am "in it for the programming" (I read the articles too... )...
